Operational Research and Decision Making

It is offered jointly by the Technical University of Crete and the Hellenic Army Academy, combining academic research with applied technological education.

It is aimed at young scientists and researchers, as well as executives of the Armed Forces, Civil Protection, the Coast Guard, the Fire Department, businesses, industry and organizations, as well as executives of the Public and Private sectors, who wish to acquire knowledge and skills in the basic principles and modern methods of Operational Research and Decision Making with application to the subjects of Defense and Security, and Analytical and Decision Making, in matters of operational, military and industrial interest that lead to decision-making under uncertainty for the treatment - resolution of complex problems and situations. With a duration of three semesters (full-time) and five (part-time) and a total of 90 ECTS, it leads to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in which the specialization track is also indicated.

Specializations

In the second semester, students choose a specialization direction:

Defense and Security: Emphasis is given to cryptography and security, business simulation and combat models, intelligent decision support systems, computational intelligence, supply chain (logistics), surveillance methods and target research.

Analytics and Decision Making: Emphasis is given to business intelligence, machine learning, business analytics and data science, big data analysis, web analytics, text and sentiment analysis, intelligent decision support systems, multi-agent systems.

In both directions, the core of the program includes courses in Mathematical Programming and Optimization, Operations Analysis, Decision Analysis and Risk Management, Modeling and Simulation, Group Decision Making and Negotiation, Management and Evaluation of Systems, providing strong theoretical foundations to all students.

To earn a Master of Science in “Operations Research and Decision Making”, students must successfully complete eight (8) courses and write a master's thesis.
